Savages' bassist Ayşe Hassan teams with Kendra Frost for new project Kite Base
Ayşe Hassan, the bassist for Savages, and Kendra Frost (also a bassist), have teamed up for new project Kite Base, and shared their debut track "Dadum".
With heartbeat percussion and Suzanne Vega-style 'da da da-dum'-ing, fused with their penchant for dark, brooding rock noises, Kite Base swerve into a riveting territory. It's shadowy, minimalist, industrial, pop-tinged - there are flecks of Warpaint or 2:54 in their noises as they create typhoon-level textures and weave guitars through clarion vox.
The pair have explained the reason behind their moniker: "One of the main starting points found in origami, a Kite Base is an opening move made with simple folds to generate a firm and fertile foundation for creativity. It can become whatever you want it to be- simple or complex- based on the imagination of the creator, inspiration and chance. To us, the ‘Kite’ also symbolises the generation of ideas and setting them free to evolve organically, embracing change. The ‘Base’ is the final ordering of these thoughts once they have been allowed to settle. It is a symbiotic relationship. A duo. Our working methodology."
