Plaitum unshackle primal pop beast "Ovation", detail debut LP Constraint
Electro twosome Plaitum have announced details of their debut record Constraint and shared new single "Ovation".
Abi Dersiley and Matt Canham amp up the filth on "Ovation" - it's a red-blooded anthem with bass and beats and battling synths all palpably throbbing. This is a feral cloak of sound that wraps itself around you, constricting around your mind and heart, leaving you utterly breathless.
The pair, signed to producer Paul Epworth's Wolf Tone (Rosie Lowe, Glass Animals), have already shared a bunch of noises from the LP, including last year's spectacular "MYO", "Jagwa", and "LMHY".
"The album itself is vaguely conceptual in that it follows an exploitative relationship through different points of view, to tell one story," says Canham, who also produced the LP.
"We’ve always been set on hiding dark, sadistic fucked up stories in pop," Dersiley adds. "Trying to portray stuff in a way that people don’t realise they’re listening to something that’s based on a bad experience or Ted Bundy or whatever. To explain every song would be missing the point... it’s like a joke, almost. It makes people feel kind of dirty, in a way."
Plaitum have confirmed a handful of new shows in April to support the LP's release, including a headline date at London's Pickle Factory on 25 April. Find out more.
