Phosphorescent announces first album in five years, shares new track "New Birth in New England"
Phosphorescent makes his grand return with a bright, joyful tone as he shares new single "New Birth in New England" alongside news of his first album in five years.
Matthew Houck, aka Phosphorescent, hasn't released a studio album since 2013's Muchacho.
Today he returns with news of his seventh studio album C’est La Vie, which arrives with new single "New Birth New England".
C'est La Vie is expected to delve into his alarmingly busy five years, in which Houck has fallen in love, started a family, left New York, built a studio, and battled serious illness.
Speaking about his new album, Houck explains, "It’s laughable, honestly, how many life-altering events happened. The most significant moments in your life make you feel your insignificance."
Phosphorescent's new LP is produced by Houck and recorded at his Spirit Sounds Studio in Nashville, built to house the sessions that led to the album, which came together after a week of live rehearsals.
The album came together with the help of Ricky Ray Jackson on pedal steel, Luke Reynolds on guitar and Houck’s wife Jo Schornikow on Wurlitzer and organ.
At 2016's End Of The Road Festival Best Fit captured Phosphorescent performing "Joe Tex, These Taming Blues" at a secret set.
"New Birth New England" is available now. C'est La Vie drops on 5 October via Dead Oceans.
