Perfume Genius announces new album Ugly Season and accompanying short film
Perfume Genius has shared news of his forthcoming album Ugly Season, which will be accompanied by a short film by visual artist Jacolby Satterwhite.
Ugly Season will follow Perfume Genius' 2020 album Set My Heart On Fire Immediately, and will feature 2019's "Eye in the Wall" and "Pop Song", which were written for The Sun Still Burns Here, his immersive dance piece made in collaboration with choreographer Kate Wallich.
According to Pitchfork, Ugly Season is produced by Blake Mills, and features contributions from Mike Hadreas' partner Alan Wyffels.
Ugly Season will be released alongside a short film created by visual artist Jacolby Satterwhite, who said, "This project is the genesis of a whole new direction that I’m taking, one that I’ve been thinking about within this endemic culture, since 2020. Mike and I are both writing scripts. My visual narrative serendipitously mirrors the lyrical direction in his music; it’s a rare, like-minded bond. It’s a creation myth. How do you architecturally mold and render an idealised version of utopia? It’s about making something that you desire so beyond your scope that it’s hard to grapple into a concrete form."
In December last year Perfume Genius remixed Charli XCX's "Good Ones".
