Omar Souleyman announces new record and signs to Diplo's record label
Omar Souleyman has signed to Diplo's label Mad Decent and announced new record To Syria, With Love.
The LP is the follow up to acclaimed LP Bahdeni Nami and is described as a "departure musically and lyrically from his previous material, with focus on more elaborate keyboard and techno elements."
To Syria, With Love isn't supposed to be a political statement, instead focusing on Souleyman's relationship with his home country and the "emotional connection to the land and people".
"It’s been six years I’ve been away," Souleyman says. "I’m tired of looking for home and asking about my loved ones. My soul is wounded and it’s like having dust in my eyes. We are in exile, and our nights are long. Our homeland is our only comfort. Life caused us so much pain - our wounds are too many and every wound calls out, 'we miss Al-Jazira [Souleyman's native region in Syria]'."
To Syria, With Love features lyrics and poetry co-written with long-time collaborator Shawah Al Ahmad, as well as "complex" arrangements from Hasan Alo.
