Noname apologises for responding to J. Cole with "Song 33"
Chicago rapper Noname has apologised on Twitter for responding to J. Cole's "Snow on Tha Bluff" song with "Song 33" last week.
Last Thursday (18 June), Noname released her first new song in over a year, "Song 33".
The track features production from Madlib, and appeared to be a response to J. Cole's "Snow on Tha Bluff" track that he dropped earlier in the week.
In the song, Noname raps, "But n****s in the back quiet as a church mouse / Basement studio when duty calls to get the verse out / I guess the ego hurt now / It's time to go to work, wow, look at him go / He really 'bout to write about me when the world is in smokes? / When it's people in trees? / When George was beggin' for his mother, saying he couldn't breathe / You thought to write about me?"
Yesterday (21 June) on Twitter, Noname addressed "Song 33", writing, "I’ve been thinking a lot about it and i am not proud of myself for responding with song 33. I tried to use it as a moment to draw attention back to the issues i care about but i didn’t have to respond. My ego got the best of me. I apologise for any further distraction this caused."
In a second tweet, she added, "Madlib killed that beat and i see there’s a lot of people that resonate with the words so i’m leaving it up but i’ll be donating my portion of the songs earnings to various mutual aid funds. black radical unity."
