Metric share visuals for new single "Dark Saturday"
Metric have been laying low since their 2015 Pagans in Vegas album. Today they've shared the visuals for new single "Dark Saturday".
Canadian rock group Metric have returned with their first material since 2015. Having revealed the audio for comeback single "Dark Saturday" last week, Metric have now revealed the split monochrome visuals to accompany their rumbling new single.
The music video was directed by long-time collaborator Justin Broadbent, who used nothing but an iPhone X to achieve the four-way split images that showcase each band member.
Although Metric haven't released material in years, frontwoman Emily Haines did share a solo record Choir Of The Mind last year, with singles "Planets" and "Fatal Gift".
For their forthcoming album, Metric's first collaborating producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen has taken the reigns as they aim to achieve their original spark, while guitarist Jimmy Shaw focuses on recording and being in the band. "Justin was just what we needed in a producer for this album”, says Shaw. “He really saw every band member eye to eye and was able to capture what we each do best. It was something I realized I couldn’t do at this stage, having been in the band for so long."
Speaking about "Dark Saturday", Haines explains, "This is our seventh album as a band, and we wanted the first song people heard from it to be “Dark Saturday” as a sonic heads up that our guitars are back in force. Lyrically, the song depicts dystopian night life scene of gaudy wealth where oblivious party girls say nauseating things like, ‘I’m so rich everything’s free.’”
