Lorde on Solar Power: "I sort of knew it would be a bit of a strange record for people"
Lorde has reflected on her long-awaited third album Solar Power, saying she "knew it would be a bit of a strange record for people."
In August Lorde returned with her long-awaited third album Solar Power, and after releasing a deluxe edition last month with two additional songs - "Helen of Troy" and "Hold No Grudge" - Lorde has reflected on the record in a new interview with Evening Standard.
Discussing how the album was received, Lorde said, "I sort of knew it would be a bit of a strange record for people, but I think it to be wonderful and exactly what I needed to make."
"I think people have a certain idea of me because of how popular my first album was but I think I was always going to be a weird artist, you know?" she continued. "I’m exactly where I thought I’d be."
The release of Solar Power also saw Lorde ditch a standard CD release for an "environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD", which was a Music Box product. Speaking about the hypocrisy that comes with being an international artist and trying to be environmentally conscious, Lorde said, "I’m a pop star — I’m not going to be able to halt the end. I’m going to tour a massive show around the world next year, that’s a huge footprint. The power that I have is in symbolic choices."
