Little Simz (and her mum) were the true stars of the BRITs last night
As well as performing a medley of "Introvert" and "Woman" (with The Crown star Emma Corrin) at last night's BRIT Awards, Little Simz (and her mum) stole the show with her Best New Artist Award speech.
Last night (8 February) Little Simz - who was nominated for four BRIT Awards - played a medley of her Sometimes I Might Be Introvert tracks "Introvert" (featuring a surprise appearance from The Crown's Emma Corrin, who recited her spoken-word verse from the song) and "Woman".
The rapper picked up her first ever BRIT Award at last night's ceremony for Best New Artist after being nominated for Best Hip-Hop/Grime/Rap Act, Artist Of The Year and Album Of The Year, and stole the show during her heartfelt acceptance speech by bringing her mum onstage.
Little Simz opened her Best New Artist speech by saying, "Thank you so much. Mum, look at what you've done. Look at what you've done."
"I wanna say thank you to everyone that's supported me on this journey so far," Little Simz continued. "My name is Simbiatu Ajikawo. I'm from North London, Islington. [I] grew up on a council estate, I'm an independent artist and to be here tonight, receiving this award is such a blessing. I'm so grateful."
Little Simz added, "I am living proof that if you work hard at something, no matter where you come from, no matter your background, no matter your race, you can do something extraordinary. So this is for all the kids dreaming… Keep dreaming, keep pushing, I am you, you are me. Blessings, thank you so much."
