Laura-Mary Carter unveils new track "Ceremony" from debut solo mini-album
Blood Red Shoes' Laura-Mary Carter has unveiled new song "Ceremony" as the second preview of her debut solo mini-album Town Called Nothing.
"Ceremony" is the second taster of Carter's debut solo mini-album, following last month's lead outing and title-track "Town Called Nothing".
The new song is accompanied bya live performance video that was filmed byLewis Knaggs, and sees Carter backed by a band made up of Seb Rochford (Polar Bear, Electric Ladyland, Patti Smith), Jack Flanagan (The Mystery Jets) and Patrick Walden (Babyshambles).
Carter says of the new song, "The song is about my career. It’s about being in debt to someone and trying to break free. It's about the feeling of not having a choice but to make music because that's who I am but that sometimes comes with a price or with massive sacrifices. It's about making peace with the choices and decisions I have made over the years and moving forward."
A Town Called Nothing was recorded in multiple studios between the US and UK, and was largely inspired after discovering a town in Arizona called Nothing, following a tarot reading in which Carter was told she would "find her heart in Arizona".
Speaking about the mini-album, Carter says, "It’s about desolation and abandonment really, and that fear of being left to go derelict, just like those old towns."
