Lana Del Rey has a "cover album of country songs" waiting to be released
Lana Del Rey has revealed she has a "cover album of country songs" and a collection of "other folk songs" waiting to be released.
After releasing "Chemtrails Over The Country Club" as the lead single from her album of the same name last month, Del Rey has revealed in a new interview with MOJO (via Contact Music) that she has a "cover album of country songs" as well as a collection of "other folk songs" in the works.
It's currently unclear if the country covers album and folk songs collection is related to the album of "American Standards and classics" that she planned to release in time for Christmas last year. Del Rey also revealed in November last year that she "has some Patsy Cline songs I've been wanting to cover for a really long time", as well as a couple of "cool Americana songs with Nikki Lane."
Del Rey told MOJO that when listening back to her early material, she found elements of country music, "I went back and listened to "Ride" and "Video Games" and thought, you know they’re kind of country. I mean, they’re definitely not pop."
She added, "So let’s see how these things come out – I’m not going to have pedal steel guitar on every single thing, but it is easy for me to write."
Del Rey also revealed that she once recorded a toilet paper commercial under a different name, "There was this company that emerged called The Orchard that was taking submissions for, like, toilet paper commercials and I definitely did one, like, under a pseudonym."
The singer/songwriter continued, "Definitely the happiest I’ve ever been. Stay in the middle, no dog in the race, people would even hire me for background stuff."
Earlier this month Del Rey hinted that her next Chemtrails Over The Country Club single might be "White Dress".
