John Lydon's production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" cancelled
Back in April, news emerged that former Sex Pistols singer John Lydon was set to appear in a U.S production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Now, quite thankfully, this will no longer take place.
The Associated Press reports that Andrew Lloyd Webber’s touring production, which was set to begin a 50-city North American stint on 9 June, has been scrapped entirely. No reason has been given, but it’s thought that it would have needed to draw in “several hundred thousand dollars” every night to break even.
Lydon was to be joined by Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams as Mary, Incubus frontman Brandon Boyd as Judas, N Sync’s JC Chasez as Pontius Pilate and ITV talent show winner Ben Forster as Jesus himself.
