John Grant shares his video for energetic synth-funk track "Voodoo Doll"
John Grant has shared his video for "Voodoo Doll", a stuttering, sprawling synth-funk single full of malice, humour, and intrigue.
The track appears on Grant's record Grey Tickles, Black Pressure, which is out now via Bella Union. "Voodoo Doll" follows vids for other singles "Down Here" and "Disappointing", and is directed by The Diamond Brothers.
Speaking about the video, The Diamond Brothers say: “We've been long time fans of John Grant since Queen Of Denmark and leapt at the chance to collaborate on a music video for him. The rich visual imagery in his lyrics gave us so much to work with to create a lush world for his music to inhabit.”
It sees Grant create an actual voodoo doll to help a depressed friend, even feeding the doll chicken noodle soup - it also features the musician dolled up (pun intended) in face paint and a Baron Samedi-style top hat.
Anna Meredith, Black Devil Disco, Wrangler, Peski Kid and Gwenno have all remixed the track for a new release in the near future.
