JAY-Z releases 4:44, his answer to Beyoncé's Lemonade
JAY-Z (no longer Jay Z) has released his new record 4:44, a new visual record featuring Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, Damian Marley, The-Dream, and more.
The LP is the follow up to 2013's Magna Carta Holy Grail and can only be heard, obviously, via TIDAL. Unobviously, you can't just sign up now (unless you have a Sprint mobile plan) to hear it - you have to have been with the service since before 26 June. You'll also be able to hear it on 160 iHeartMedia radio stations.
"This is a perfect storm of sharing music with fans," JAY-Z says in a not-at-all-stilted statement. "Sprint allows for and promotes creative freedom."
Gloria Carter (JAY-Z's mum) and Blue Ivy (his daughter) both also appear on the record, which makes direct references to Beyoncé's landmark Lemonade masterpiece - even talking about the infamous "Becky with the good hair".
Nina Simone, Donny Hathaway, The Fugees, and Sister Nancy are among the artists sampled on the 10-track record.
Gospel singer/pastor Kim Burrell also makes an appearance on the record on the title track. Burrell last year drew ire after she was filmed giving a sermon which "suggested homosexuals will die in 2017 due to their sins". When criticised, Burrell said she makes "no excuses or apologies".
Jay has also shared visuals for "The Story Of O.J.", which you can watch bwlow.
