Jarvis Cocker to perform in Sheffield at premiere of new steel industry documentary
Pulp frontman and general artsy type, Jarvis Cocker is set to perform in his hometown of Sheffield this week at a premiere for a new film based on the city’s renowned steel industry.
The Big Melt will open at the Sheffield Doc/Fest 2013 on Wednesday (12 June), with Cocker to be joined live by Richard Hawley, a string quartet, brass band and children’s choir.
Jarvis himself scored the documentary and said of the project: “Just like Billy Casper told Jud he’d ‘never work down t’pit’, I vowed never to get in all that ‘Sheffield: Steel City’ biz. But guess what? Looking at the BFI’s awesome collection of steel-related films changed my mind. I only hope that we can pay proper homage to the extraordinary individuals featured in this footage.”
The special set in question will take place at the city’s Crucible Theatre.
