Japanese Breakfast announces new memoir Crying In H Mart
Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast has announced her new book Crying In H Mart.
The memoir takes the same name as her 2018 essay in The New Yorker, and will explore "growing up Korean-American, losing her mother too young, searching for identity in a hybrid culture, and finding a passion for her ancestry and Korean cooking as a way to heal and return to her roots in the wake of loss."
In her 2018 essay, Zauner explains, "H Mart is a supermarket chain that specializes in Asian food".
Zauner's last album was 2017's Soft Sounds From Another Planet. In September 2018 she released two new singles, "2042" and "Posing in Bondage" as part of Polyvinyl’s 4-Track Singles Series.
