Janelle Monáe announces collection of short stories set in "futuristic universe" of Dirty Computer
Janelle Monáe has announced The Memory Librarian, her debut collection of fictional tales that are set in the "futuristic universe" of her Dirty Computer album.
Monáe's Grammy-nominated album Dirty Computer was released in April 2018, and last night (2 December) Monáe announced The Memory Librarian, a collection of short stories inspired by the record.
The Memory Librarian, according to the Waterstones description, will feature 400 pages, and is Monáe's "debut fiction collection", and will feature a series of "tales set in the futuristic universe" of her 2018 album.
The description adds that Monáe "returns to the Afrofuturistic world of her critically acclaimed album, Dirty Computer, to explore how different threads of liberation - queerness, race, gender plurality, love - become tangled in a totalitarian landscape... and to discover costs of unravelling them."
