James Murphy discusses new Arcade Fire album
After long being rumoured as producing the new Arcade Fire album, LCD Soundsystem man James Murphy has opened up about his role in the Canadian band’s new LP.
“I think it’s going to be a really great record, actually,” Murphy told Rolling Stone recently. “I’m eager to see it come out.”
But Murphy’s role wasn’t as that of a traditional producer, however, he says. “There’s a lot of them, and they’re mostly self-produced – like, they don’t need a producer in a certain way. So I didn’t know how it would go.”
“It’s always working,” he continued. “It’s just that I might have a different way of approaching how to finish, or how to accomplish an end result that really works.”
Murphy confirmed to the publication that Arcade Fire had recorded in his DFA studios during March, but didn’t reveal when the album is likely to be due.
Meanwhile, Murphy has been keeping busy designing his own actual soundsystem.
