Idlewild announces Scottish Fiction IPA, their own craft beer
Idlewild have gone and made a beer called Scottish Fiction IPA, and are throwing a big ol' party to launch it.
The band have created the beer in association with Edinburgh brewers Barney's Beer, who said of the collaboration:
"When the band approached me to collaborate on a beer I invited them down to the brewery to have a taste of some beers and throw around some ideas. We’re not new to artistic collaborations having worked with John Byrne, Ryoko Tamura and Will Pickvance - so it was great to have the whole b’s input and come up with something that reflects the ideas behind Everything Ever Written."
Scottish Fiction IPA is named after a track from the band’s album The Remote Part; it's made with "Scottish malt and American hops to mirror the album’s musical ingredients - Scottish Folk, Hebridean psychedelia, Americana and American alternative rock."
Idlewild’s Roddy Woomble explained their decision to create the brew in the first place:
"Idlewild are a band of committed and enthusiastic craft beer and ale drinkers and Barneys beer has been a favourite for quite a while".
It will be strictly limited to 1250 bottles, and will be made available to purchase independent beer and wine shops across Scotland. It's also set to be available in cask form. The bottles will come with a QR code on the label that link to a free download of an acoustic version of early cut "A Film For The Future" from their album Hope Is Important.
To launch the concoction, Idlewild will be hosting an evening of japes on 6 February in Summerhall (Edinburgh), where the beer will be available. There will also be an exclusive playback of Everything Ever Written followed by a DJ set from the band. Tickets can be found here - they're free!
Everything Ever Written will be released 16 February, with upcoming single "Come On Ghost" dropping a week before on 9 February.
