HBO to broadcast Pussy Riot documentary next month
U.S cable network, HBO are set to air a documentary next month regarding jailed Russian activists and punk band Pussy Riot.
The feature-length film will be entitled Pussy Riot – A Punk Prayer and follows the story from initial arrest to subsequent trial and imprisonment. It’ll be broadcast on 10 June.
Last year, three members of the group were found guilty of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred” and were sentenced to two years in jail following the performance in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The song requested that the Virgin Mary drive Russian president Vladimir Putin from power.
Maria Alyokhina, 24, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, had been named prisoners of conscience by Amnesty International. Samutsevich was released in October.
