Hatchie covers Jennifer Paige's "Crush" for Secretly Canadian’s 25th anniversary singles series
Hatchie has contributed a cover of Jennifer Paige's "Crush" to Secretly Canadian's 25th anniversary singles series.
Since April, Secretly Canadian has been sharing a series of covers and tracks as part of its year-long 25th anniversary celebrations, and alongside various reissues from the label, Secretly Canadian is aiming to raise $250,000 for Bloomington organisation New Hope For Families.
Today's latest releases as part of the 25th anniversary singles series is Hatchie's cover of Jennifer Pasige's "Crush" and Meernaa's previously unreleased, original song "Bells".
Hatchie’s Harriette Pilbeam says of the cover, "I’d been thinking of covering "Crush" for a few years before this opportunity arose. I always thought the lyrics were much more moody than the bright chorus they were paired with, so I wanted to shift the focus. I was super keen to be involved with SC25 when asked. It’s cool to be amongst some great artists doing the same."
Meernaa’s Carly Bond says of "Bells", "This song was written a little while back. It was the kind of song that just came out without much thought, all feeling. After writing "Bells" I didn’t know what to do with it, it didn’t really seem to fit into the current project I was working on; it felt like it needed its own space. When I was asked to contribute to the compilation and learned about how it was to contribute 100% of the profits to support New Hope for Families, it felt like a beautiful opportunity to gift it freely and with purpose."
Previous SC25 releases include Bartees Strange's cover of Richard Swift's "Lady Luck", Tasha and Gregory Uhlmann's version of The Chicks' "Lullaby", and other covers by Jim James, Madison McFerrin, NNAMDÏ, Beach Fossils, Stella Donnelly, Porridge Radio, Skullcrusher and more.
