Google asked to take down eight file-sharing links a second
Search engine giants, Google have long found themselves in a difficult position of attempting to maintain neutrality amidst increasing pressure for them to act against copyright infringement.
As FACT report, the requests the company receives from anti-piracy authorities have reached an all-time high, with 5.9 million requests logged within the last week of September alone. This equals roughly eight every second.
Among these, 5.7 million complaints were from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) alone, rising greatly from the 1.2 million requests per month Google had been receiving just last year.
Anti-piracy campaigners have labelled Google’s fight against infringement as “ineffective”, putting increasing pressure on the company to act further.
