GHUM announce debut album with lead cut "Some People"
GHUM, who played Best Fit's Five Day Forecast showcase in 2020, have announced their debut album Bitter with a new single titled "Some People".
"Some People" is the group's first new material since 2020's "California", and is teamed with a Lydia Garnett-directed video.
Vocalist Laura Guerrero Lora says of the single, "This song is about getting to know someone and having the fear of hurting them, because love has turned a bit hopeless and unexciting. Not trusting oneself to be able to love someone after not falling in love for a long time."
"We wanted to have a bit of fun with a video that was diverse and inclusive," Lora adds. "Lydia has created a visual world where a fun, camp narrative plays out. Taking inspiration from 90’s pop videos, John Waters movies and the recent Spice Girls documentary series, she created a humorous, unpredictable, queer friendly world for us to live in."
The track will appear on GHUM's debut album Bitter, which will be their first collection of tracks since 2019's The Coldest Fire EP.
Lora adds of the album, "The style of the songs all taste like GHUM. We recognise it when we're jamming. We know what we're doing now. It's strong and a bit aggressive, a bit melancholic. It’s like us."
