Former Kasabian singer Tom Meighan admits to assaulting ex-fiancée
Tom Meighan, the former lead vocalist of Kasabian, has admitted to assaulting his ex-fiancée Vikki Ager.
Meighan appeared at Leicester Magistrates Court to face a charge of assault earlier today (7 July), and was ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty.
His assault charge comes just 24 hours after Kasabian announced Meighan had stepped down from the band due to "personal issues".
Prosecutor Naeem Valli told the court that Meighan "smelt heavily of intoxicants" during the incident on 9 April, and was "uncooperative and aggressive" towards police officers when they arrived.
The Guardian reports the assault was witnessed by a young girl who called the police. Meighan's former fiancée Vikki Ager could be heard saying "get off me, get off me" in the background.
Ager confirmed to police that the bruises on her knees, left elbow, outer ankle and big toe were a result of the assault, as well as reddening around the neck.
Michelle Heeley QC, Meighan's barrister, told the court the singer "offers his sincere apologies to the people he has let down and he has sought to address his offending behaviour".
Kasabian wrote in their statement regarding Meighan's departure yesterday (6 July), "Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track."
