Did Maroon 5 get banned from entering China because they wished the Dalai Lama Happy Birthday?
Adam Levine and his merry band of revolutionaries Maroon 5 have reportedly been barred from entering China by authorities.
The BBC reported over the weekend that shows in Shanghai and Beijing, originally set for September, had been cancelled. Although Live Nation, the concerts' promoters, didn't specify why, the BBC drew links between the cancellations and a Tweet made by Maroon 5 keyboardist Jesse Carmichael about the Dalai Lama. In the Tweet, Carmichael reportedly claimed to have "sang happy birthday to his holiness" - it's since been deleted, and there's no confirmation from either party that this was the issue.
If true, this would not be the first time that Western musicians had suffered the wrath of the Chinese authorities in relation to the Dalai Lama, with Oasis, Bjork, and more being refused entry after showing support for the Dalai Lama or Tibet.
Looks like there's some "Misery" in both camps over this issue.
