Dalston club Dance Tunnel set to close

London club Dance Tunnel is shuttering its doors this summer, with the club citing "the licensing climate in Hackney".

The Kingsland Road hotspot opened in 2012, and has hosted events from Skream, Plastician, Ben UFO, and more over the years.

Dan Beaumont, who opened Dance Tunnel, is part of the Night Time Industries Association, which describes itself as: "It seeks to influence the decisions of policymakers and ensure that the night time economy continues to flourish, supporting regeneration, creating jobs and enhancing the UK’s international reputation."

As Time Out notes, this news arrives shortly after a new adjustment to planning regulations that sought to protect venues from noise complaints.

A statement from Dance Tunnel posted on Facebook reads:

"We regret to announce that Dance Tunnel is to close it's doors in August. Sadly the licensing climate in Hackney has made it impossible for us to get the hours we need to make Dance Tunnel sustainable in the long term.

"We would like to sincerely apologise to all the Tunnel Dancers who we are letting down. We really tried to make it work. Thanks to all the artists, DJs, promoters and family members who have shared their favourite music and moments with us over the last three-and-a-bit years. Thanks to everyone who has made our basement such a special place. Sorry we never got round to fixing that slope on the dance floor."
