Ada Lea announces third album "when i paint my masterpiece," shares dreamy first single
Ada Lea returns with her third studio album in four years, when i paint my masterpiece, out 8 August via Saddle Creek.
The announcement arrives alongside a new single, “baby blue frigidaire mini fridge,” a hushed, dreamy folk-pop track rooted in intimacy, reset, and artistic renewal.
“baby blue frigidaire mini fridge” is the first glimpse of when i paint my masterpiece, Ada Lea’s upcoming 16-track LP out 8 August via Saddle Creek, a record that blurs the lines between sound and visual art. The album marks the Montreal-based musician’s third full-length release and follows 2021’s one hand on the steering wheel the other sewing a garden.
After years of touring and burnout, Ada Lea, aka Alexandra Levy, stepped back from the constant churn of the music industry. What followed was a quieter period of reflection, shaped by painting, poetry, teaching, and a re-engagement with community.
“Taking a step away from music as guided by industry expectations. Simplifying things. Getting a job, starting to teach. Engaging with the process rather than the product,” Levy explains.
“baby blue frigidaire mini fridge” is soft and surreal, with its instrumentation gentle and intuitive. Inspired in part by Chantal Akerman’s camera work, the track zooms in on the personal and the mundane.
Recorded in rural Ontario with her band and co-producer Luke Temple, when i paint my masterpiece leans into imperfection and openness. The new body of work is shaped by process rather than outcome.
