Bruce Springsteen wrote his new album on acoustic guitar gifted by fan
Bruce Springsteen has revealed that he wrote his upcoming album Letter To You with an acoustic guitar that a fan gave to him as a gift.
Earlier this month Springsteen announced his new album Letter To You and released the title-track as the lead single.
The album marks Springsteen's first performance with the E Street Band since 2016's The River tour, and in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Springsteen reveals it's the first album that they've all recorded completely live, "It’s the only album where it’s the entire band playing at one time, with all the vocals and everything completely live."
Further in the interview, Springsteen also shares that he wrote the upcoming album with an acoustic guitar that was gifted to him by a fan, potentially in Italy, "I said, 'Geez, you know, thanks', and I just took a quick glance at it and it looked like a nice guitar, so I jumped in the car with it."
Rolling Stone note that the guitar - made by a company Springsteen has never heard of - sat in his living room for months before he picked it up in April 2019.
Speaking about using the guitar for the album, Springsteen says, "All the songs from the album came out of it. In perhaps less than 10 days. I just wandered around the house in different rooms, and I wrote a song each day. I wrote a song in the bedroom. I wrote a song in our bar. I wrote a song in the living room."
Letter To You will feature nine songs written recently, as well as previously unreleased 1970's compositions.
