Bree Runway leads 2022 BRITs Rising Star Award shortlist
Bree Runway is one of three artists to be shortlisted for the 2022 BRITs Rising Star Award today (30 November), ahead of the winner being announced next week.
After Griff beat Rina Sawayama and Pa Salieu to win the 2021 BRITs Rising Star Award, the shortlist for the 2022 award has been unveiled, featuring Bree Runway, Holly Humberstone and Lola Young.
Bree Runway, whose last solo single was April's "HOT HOT", has had a big year despite not releasinng a project since last year's 2000AND4EVA mixtape. On top of collaborating with Glass Animals - who were nominated for their first Grammy last week - on an updated version of "Space Ghost Coast To Coast" in May, Bree Runway worked with Jimmy Edgar on a remix of Lady Gaga's "Babylon" for the Dawn Of Chromatica remix album in September.
Speaking about being shortlisted, Bree Runway said, "I feel so honoured to be recognised by the BRITs in this way, it’s all so exciting especially as previous nominees have gone on to do such amazing things, I hope I’m struck by that same luck. Attending the BRITs alone has been something I’ve wanted to do for years, but attending as a Rising Star nominee is a DREAM."
Humberstone released her second EP The Walls Are Way Too Thin earlier this month, and has since worked with last year's BRITs Rising Star winner to perform a new version of "Friendly Fire", and also played the same song with Bombay Bicycle Club's Jack Steadman at a recent London show.
"Music has always been my entire life, and being nominated for such a prestigious award really means everything to me," Humberstone said of being shortlisted. "Recognition from the BRITs is something I am struggling to comprehend at the moment! it’s truly an honour to be nominated for the BRITs Rising Star Award alongside two other incredibly inspiring female artists."
21-year-old South Londoner Lola Young most recently contributed a cover of Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder's "Together In Electric Dreams" to the 2021 John Lewis Christmas advert. Her latest EP After Midnight arrived in August. She added of being shortlisted, "I can’t believe I’ve been nominated for this award. It feels surreal and completely unexpected. I actually have to pinch myself looking at the other artists that have been nominated previously. It is such a big step for me and I feel very excited to have been nominated!" Her latest EP After Midnight arrived in August.
