Bill Callahan and Bonnie "Prince" Billy release cover of Lou Reed's "Rooftop Garden"
Bill Callahan and Bonnie "Prince" Billy have entered 2021 by continuing their covers series with their take on Lou Reed's "Rooftop Garden", featuring Xylouris White's George Xylouris.
The duo's cover of Reed's "Rooftop Garden" sees them team up with Cretan lute player George Xylouris, who is a member of Xylouris White, and follows on from last month's cover of Little Feat's "I've Been the One" with Meg Baird.
"Rooftop Garden", originally released in 1983 on Lou Reed's Legendary Hearts album, is accompanied by a video directed by Kris Rey.
Their cover of "Rooftop Garden" marks the duo's first cover of 2021. Last year they covered Robert Wyatt's "Sea Song" with Mick Turner, Steely Dan's "Deacon Blues", Billie Eilish's "Wish You Were Gay" with The High Llamas’ Sean O’Hagan. Other covers by Callahan and Oldham include their version of Yusuf/Cat Stevens' "Blackness of the Night" with AZITA, and a cover of Hank Williams Jr.'s "O.D.'d in Denver" featuring Matt Sweeney.
