Charli XCX reacts to being name-checked on Eastenders: "shout out my gays"
Charli XCX has taken to her social media to acknowledge being name-checked in the iconic British soap, Eastenders.
In the episode which aired on Tuesday (5 September), Lily Slater, who is played by Lillia Turner, gives birth to a daughter that she shares with Ricky Mitchell, who is played by Frankie Day. Already seeped in controversy, as the two were just 12-years-old when the child was conceived, the producers behind Eastenders decided to give viewers something else to talk about.
Mitchell reveals to Lily's mother Stacey Slater, played by Lacey Turner, that they have decided to name the baby Charli. Stacey appears moved by this, and asks if they've named the baby after her uncle Charlie – the iconic character who was the father of Kat Slater, Little Mo Slater and Belinda.
In a hilarious turn of events, Ricky Mitchell corrects her, and notes that the baby is actually named after Charli XCX. Once the scene went viral online, Charli XCX responded, "shout out my gays in the writers room!".

Charli XCX recently made headlines for another one of her tweets, when she addressed the reason why she unfollowed Rina Sawayama. Fans suspected that their feud began when Sawayama called out The 1975‘s frontman Matty Healy during her performance at Glastonbury, and again, at NOS Alive Festival.
Charli XCX is currently dating Healy's bandmate George Daniels, and when the trio began trending on X (Twitter), Charli decided to clear up the rumours.
“Look – this all got a bit crazy – me and Rina spoke about things on the phone just now. My unfollowing (which happened a couple of weeks ago) was over a personal disagreement between friends which we’ve now spoken about <3,” she tweeted.
Charli XCX recently featured on the Barbie movie soundtrack with the original song, "Speed Drive".
