Caroline Polachek got Dido on her album after writing her a letter
Caroline Polachek has discussed how the Grimes and Dido collaboration on her Desire, I Want To Turn Into You album came together, revealing that Dido got on board after Polachek wrote her a letter.
Last month Polachek revealed that her Desire, I Want To Turn Into You album would feature a Grimes and Dido collaboration titled "Fly to You", and in a new interview with Vulture, Polachek has revealed how the track came together, and how she ended up working with Dido after sending her a letter.
According to Vulture, part of "Fly to You" was recorded at 6am in Grimes' bedroom with just the two of them in a "very sweet session". Dido got on board later after Polachek wrote her a letter.
Polachek said of Dido, "Her way of blending a quite natural, almost folk approach to pop singing with a very contemporary electronic production was very influential for me."
Dido FaceTimed Polachek a few days after receiving the letter, and then Polachek joined Dido at her LA home, where they wrote and recorded the rest of the song on her lawn.
The piece also reveals that Polachek is finishing up a song for a new A24 film.
Last month Polachek released a new remix of her "Welcome To My Island" single by Charli XCX and The 1975's George Daniel. The piece notes that Charli XCX wrote her contributions on holiday in the Florida Keys with boyfriend George Daniel - hence the line "Or you can drive me down to Florida and fuck me for days". Polachek said, "She’s diaristic if nothing else."
Desire, I Want To Turn Into You will feature earlier singles "Welcome To My Island", "Sunset", "Bunny is a Rider" and "Billions".
Caroline Polachek’s upcoming album Desire, I Want To Turn Into You will be released on 14 February, and is available to pre-order now.
