Baby Dave releases his second album, Different Gravy
Baby Dave releases his new album Different Gravy, arriving with new highlight single "Middle Urinal Business".
Different Gravy is the second album to arrive from Isaac Holman’s solo alias – the follow up to 2022’s Monkey Brain, which featured instrumental and production contributions from Damon Albarn. Earlier this year, Holman signalled that he would continue to release as Baby Dave with the surprise drop of "Sounds Good".
The track was followed by "Telephobia", which features guest vocals from Kate Nash. In contrast, new single "Middle Urinal Business" drips with sardonicism, an almost anthropological study of a hyper-specific yet completely universal figure. Unpacking the track, Holman shares; “I will forever be in awe of men who can wee in the middle urinal like it’s nothing. I get stage fright on my own in my flat. How they do it I will never know. This is a song about those men.”
Holman has come to recognise that his creations as Baby Dave have become a necessary ingredient for his mental wellbeing. “Making this record over the last year has both kept me sane and made me feel more mental than ever. I’ve come to realise that I now need to make these tunes," he says. "It’s like therapy for me. It’s catharsis. It’s personal. Say what you see. That’s the point in this project. It’s about every day shit, as mundane as it often is. But even in the uneventful days, little things happen, and they’re the things I like to write about.”
