André 3000 receives honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music
Over the weekend, André 3000 was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music degree at from the prestigious Berklee College of Music.
Referencing his perspective on creativity during his acceptance speech, he said: "People will talk about what you do, good and bad. You will feel good and bad. But none of it matters. Like once it’s recorded, once you’ve done what you have to do, that’s the work. Everything else is chatter and it does not matter, it doesn’t contribute to what you’re doing. So always keep your original reason for doing music, that original feeling that you got when you were a kid when you heard the song in the first place, always keep that original feeling."
André 3000 recently released 7 piano sketches – a collection of instrumental music recorded solo on the piano, which marked his first release of new material since the 2023 instrumental album, New Blue Sun.
Outkast are set to be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, alongside Chubby Checker, Bad Company, and Joe Cocker, who are all first-time nominees, as well as Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes who have all been previously nominated for the honour.
7 piano sketches is out now.
