Bedroom-pop titan rei brown gets “Honest” on new single
“Honest” is an eye-opener of a song from Japanese-American sonic shape-shifter rei brown, further proving his proclivity for penning emotive endeavours that touch the human spirit.
New York-based rei brown’s jilted new track “Honest” drifts towards a lo-fi, R&B persuasion, propelled by ethereal vocals and a delicate yet captivating production.
The Berklee College graduate's third single of the year is a piano-driven presentation elevated by an enraptured soundscape. His essence is riveting in just how his minimalistic method of production feels grander than what meets the eye.
“Honest” has brown tapping into contemplative songwriting as it relates to coming to terms not only with someone else, but more importantly, with oneself. It’s the kind of song to remind you that in the end what truly matters is what’s in front of you, not behind.
“I made a lot of promises,” says rei brown. “When I realized I couldn’t keep those promises, it almost felt easier to keep pretending than to face reality.”
Produced by Diamond Pistols (Lil Pump, Blackbear, Rich Brian) during brown’s writing trip in Los Angeles earlier this year, “Honest” follows his previous 2020 singles, “Islands” and “Bubble”.
