Brighton's Max Pope previews upcoming debut EP with the remarkably confident "Less Than Nothing"
What happens when a musician nails it so early into their career? What does Max Pope do after "Less Than Nothing", a delectable slice of slacker-pop that shouts of an artist years into writing?
"Less Than Nothing" is one of those perfectly imperfect, well-rounded tracks - all loose-jawed guitars, shuffling beats, and Pope's boyish vocals that droop and spring at the right moments.
The lyrical as well as the musical content harks much to the delightfully lackadaisical nature of Mac DeMarco's work ("The song is written about achieving nothing with your time", Pope says), splayed out with the kind of mischievous bass licks and wobbly blues guitars that characterise much of the Canadian singer/songwriter's work. Pope honestly doesn't sound that far behind.
