Déyyess dwells on attachment in yearning new track "Escher Heart"
Tinged with foreboding skies, "Escher Heart" is a powerfully desirous track from intuitive singer/songwriter Déyyess.
Déyyess decided to pursue music fully when she was scouted for Arsenal girls' football team. "I lost sleep turning that down, but as much as I love it, football just wasn't a career I wante to pursue. I didn't feel as much passion for it as I do my music. With music you can give something that comes directly from you, a part of your own story to give to others. You have time alone to think honestly about yourself and the things you've experienced."
Opening with a sparse piano melody similar to Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill", Déyyess utilises her compelling vocals to deliver an honest track that stares at love that burnt her before straight in the eyes.
The pulsing beat adds a sense of urgency; quiet, yet beating persistently enough to add depth to the brooding lyrics.
Swaying between strength and delicacy from chorus to verse, "Escher Heart" is a cavernous offering that deals with the fiery intenseness of being in love, with her powerful delivery, and the cold-heartedness felt when experiencing heartbreak, portrayed with the dark instrumentals that add an icy twist to the track.
Déyyess explains her songwriting further, "When I'm in something, I'm all in. My last relationship was the same. She was the first girl I ever loved, and she knew that. I think that's probably why she broke up with me. Most of my songs are about her. I'm literally just over it, but if I didn't have that heartbreak, I don't think I'd be here. So I'm glad that happened to me."
