Listen: The Orwells – Who Needs You
After releasing Other Voices just last month, Dave Sitek is back on production duties for The Orwells’ ‘Who Needs You’, a thrashy helping of garage rock from one of Chicago’s hottest new bands.
Ripping into action with a riff not too far from Black Lips’ ‘Bad Kids’, it never pauses for breath, instead continuing its onslaught of roaring drums and Mario Cuomo’s snarly vocals. Grimier than Wiley in a muddy Pilton field – steady, let’s not start that one again – the band’s raw, electrifying energy is made even more exciting by the fact that they’re only eighteen. They may ask ‘Who Needs You’ but with tunes this strong already under their belt, we certainly need them.
The Who Needs You EP will be released through National Anthem/East End Records on the 9 September.
