Listen: Farao – “To Sleep Apart”
Norwegian singer-songwriter Farao doesn’t mince words on “To Sleep Apart”, the final song on her forthcoming debut EP.
Over dreamy acoustic strumming, the vocal refrain of “we were never meant to sleep apart” sounds equal parts insistent, pleading, and despondent. Save for the occasional hum of an organ and the ringing of a piano, the instrumentation is kept spare here, giving the heartbreaking lyrics the deserved forefront.
Good breakup songs provide some comfort in a trying time. Great breakup songs will transport you instantly back to that moment, to the one that hurt the most. “To Sleep Apart” falls firmly in the latter category.
Farao’s self-titled debut EP is due out 10 February (read our review here). She will be headlining The Waiting Room in London 25 February. A full-length is expected later this year.
