Watch: Fufanu - "Circus Life"
Fufanu are a trio from Reykjavík, made up by former techno comrades Hrafnkell Kaktus and Guòlaugur Halldówho. They started exploring dark psychedelia when drummer Frosti Gnarr joined the band, completing the current line-up.
The trio are currently recording a debut album but have unveiled their new rock-influenced sound with latest song, “Circus Life”.
The track is a bewildering seven minutes of droning bass lines and enrapturing guitar riffs that scrape and shuffle through a Bauhausian lullaby. It has a heavy, sensual musical narrative and a sort of cyclical structure to it, like a mythical Ouroboros. All this is perfectly matched in the accompanying video with multiple takes of the band performing, superimposed by shots of desolate landscapes.
Fufanu perform at this year’s Ja Ja Ja Festival on 14 November at the Lexington, London. They also support Damon Albarn at the Royal Albert Hall on the 16 November and play Iceland Airwaves on 6 and 7 November.
