Oakland’s Trails & Ways take inspiration from their travels in Spain and Brazil. While plenty of bands are informed by gap-year voyages of self-discovery, few bring home the sort of silkily alluring blend of bossa nova and dream-pop found on ’Como Te Vas’, a teaser track taken from their forthcoming debut EP, Trilingual.
Heady ice cream truck chimes swirl into vibrant handclaps and finger clicks, while the lightly shimmering cymbals and twirling guitar riffs recall CSS’ worldly take on dance, albeit smeared with a cool tropical-pop glaze. ‘Como Te Vas’ is another fine addition to this weekend’s essential beach/BBQ mix; ours is a piña colada thanks.
