As independent bands and musicians continue to try and navigate the modern landscape of promotion, it’s refreshing to come across something that just hits you minus an epic bio.
Enter Hoops, which started as the ambient solo project of Drew Auscherman, now fleshed out as a full band with Keagan Beresford (guitar) Kevin Krauter (bass), James Allen (drums).
Hailing from Bloomington, Indiana, you’ll be hard pressed to find much more on Hoops other than a humble blogspot. Bucking traditional social media builds and conventions, the band has managed to accrue some serious buzz by just letting the music speak for itself.
Stepping out with “Feelin Fine,” a hazy, serotonin spiked single off of their forthcoming debut physical release. Striking a blend of beautiful, dreamy tones, Hoops inhabit a space between DIIV’s guitar weaving, Ariel Pink’s surf-pop weirdness and Real Estate’s earlier works - all combined, they build towards a canvas of glorious propulsive swells of sun-soaked sonics.
Stream HOOPS’ “Feelin Fine” and look for HOOPS #1 out March 4th via Warm Ratio.
