Morgana's "Nothing Kills A Party Like A Song" is a heartfelt exploration of personal self destruction
Alongside news of her debut EP Party Killer, which is due out on 11th June, fast-rising Irish singer-songwriter Morgana has released the latest single from the project “Nothing Kills A Party Like A Song"
Opening with a subdued piano line before growing with the addition of minimal string accompaniment midway through the first verse, “Nothing Kills A Party Like A Song” sees Morgana detail the difficulty of translating life on the road with her former band Saint Sister, to quiet nights in on the couch, yearning for the attention that live shows bring, and searching high and low for something that will bring her that indescribable feeling of adrenaline.
“Nothing kills a party like a song by someone who’s been waiting all night long to do their little party trick / Oh fuck I’m that dick...” she sings, as she feels her self-belief dwindling, and social anxiety taking over. She lets listeners in as the very thing which has defined her life for as long as she can remember, her voice, grows silent for the first time.
“Nothing Kills A Party Like A Song” is the the third single from the Party Killer EP to be released so far. It follows Morgana’s debut solo single, “I’ll Cry When I’m Dead”, which found her feeling lost and out of control, whilst “Power Cut” explores the exploitation and obsession with youth that comes with life in the music industry, and watching artists do all they can to stay young and fresh whilst their friends grow up alongside them.
As a whole, Party Killer is Morgana exploring what it means to go it alone, and exploring the journey from a clean-nosed people pleaser to someone unfazed with other feelings, determined to get her way; a prima donna of the highest order. Inspired by 80’s synth pop and Italo disco, the project’s main focus, in Morgana’s own words, is to have fun.
From touring the world with Saint Sister alongside Dermot Kennedy and CMAT, Morgana is finally taking a step back to breath and take in the world around her. Her new glittery-pop aesthetic feels like a giant step towards a new horizon. “Nothing Kills A Party Like A Song” is merely the latest step in what’s set to be an enthralling solo pursuit.
