Taking their musical cues from European folk with dizzy spells of free-improvisation and jazz tinges, Icelandic 12 piece Útidúr (prounced oh-de-tor, we think!) were one of the homegrown highlights of the Airwaves Festival back in October.
We caught them on our first night of the festival, charmed by their quirky musicianship and vocal phrasing. A few days later, they met us at Iðnó, a stunning 19th century Reykjavik house, now used as a restaurant, theatre and one of the central venues for the Airwaves festival for a Best Fit Session. In the vast banqueting room upstairs, the slanting oomph of the bands sound was both haunting and enthralling.
