Watch Seams perform Nachtmusik in a tube train for Best Fit
It’s been more than two years since we first met London-born Berlin resident James Welch. Under the Seams moniker, he creates a sound that taps into the place where the more cerebral elements of electronic music intersect with the dance floor.
“I’m not really trying to collect strange sounds,” explains James, “but to re-create relatable sounds. I just record what I hear in my life so on Tourist (reissued alongside his recent Sleeper EP back in July) I was sampling the sounds of summer in the parks in Berlin.
“It was a way of showing my friends from home what it was like living .”
Seams’ Best Fit Session was first talked about a year or so back and nearly came to fruition during this year’s Great Escape Festival in Brighton, when James played the mammoth 1200 capacity Corn Exchange before kipping on Best Fit’s hotel room floor. We finally caught up with him during a brief sojourn back to the UK back in August and found one of the most unorthodox locations we’ve ever used as a backdrop for a session: a disused tube train.
