Charlotte Plank lives in the moment on the euphoric “chemical fashion”
Who knew existential thoughts could be a fast track to the dancefloor? BRIT-nominated pop star Charlotte Plank did, and she is showing the world how to do it too in a new release off her upcoming EP.
‘Where you been?’ Charlotte muses on “chemical fashion” over a skipping synth as blissful harmonies enter to meet her, enhancing the sounds of her letting go of what she can’t control. As the inevitable flashes of life wash over her, she focuses on the present, embracing a life spent in the chemical fashion as heavy drum n’ bass beats kick in. Ricocheting against themselves, the bold synths elevate Charlotte’s strong vocal line, creating an effortlessly catchy rave melody that accentuates Charlotte’s vulnerable lyrics.
While she shares a sound to burgeoning voices in the pop space from Rose Gray to Tate McCrae, Charlotte’s vision is her own. “‘chemical fashion’ is an important opening track for me this year, another step into my ‘melantronic’ world of contrasting genres,” she says. “I wanted to create something that embodied the feeling of your youth/life flashing before your eyes. We often forget to live in the moment during those formative coming of age years.”
“Sonically and lyrically, it feels like a fun fairytale, and I feel we need to be reminded to embrace that feeling sometimes. Lyrics like – ‘come with me angel on the night bus’ - even if it is just riding through London on a come down admiring the city lights.”
Pulling the prescient quote from her favorite film, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, she adds, “Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.”
This is just one single off the star’s upcoming EP ClubLiminal and comes just ahead of her upcoming UK tour. For a taste of what things are like on Planet Plank, listen below.
