Reaching new heights: Highasakite live in London
After a much-lauded stint opening for fellow Nordic luminaries Of Monsters And Men, Oslovian quintet Highasakite proved their own impressive headline potential at a sold-out Hoxton Hall last night.
Bringing their bewitching brand of Norwegian indie-pop to the beautifully renovated 19th century music hall, the band have more in common with the likes of Mariam the Believer and Taken By Trees than their erstwhile tourmates, ditching high-tempo tweeness for a more atmospheric mix of synths, steel drums, trumpet and e-bow.
Augmented by an intense light show, vocalist Ingrid Helene Håvik and her cohorts employed their harmonies and multi-instrumental talents to fantastic effect on an eclectic array of material, ranging from dark, impassioned numbers to the upbeat fan favourites "Darth Vader" and "Since Last Wednesday".
Highasakite's new single, "Someone Who'll Get It" is now available through Propeller Recordings.
