El Perro Del Mar debut new material in London
Swedish dream pop outfit El Perro Del Mar returned to London on Friday (5th May) to tour their Asia-inspired sixth album KoKoro. Playing the whole record in the intimate and slightly hard to find London Fields Brewery, the room quickly became full.
The new songs had a swooping, atmospheric feel to them, full of reverb and oriental sounds. KoKoro’s lead singles “Breadandbutter” and “Ding Sum” proved to be particularly popular with the crowd.
It wasn’t just tracks from the new album that were heard last night. El Perro Del Mar also treated the audience to a rockier version of “Change of Heart” from their 2009 album Love is Not Pop.
It was a shame that there wasn’t time to hear more of the band’s 60s-inspired older tracks, like “Glory to the World”, but the band made up for it by finishing on “Dream Baby Dream”, originally a Suicide song, but something that had more of a feel of Young Marble Giants when played live.
