Barli brought sultry tones and beautifully embellished layers of electro to Stoke Newington’s Waiting Room on 17th April in a show that perfectly exhibited a knack for teaming soulful vocals with super-chilled beats that come alive when the moon is high.
Having written their first song together – the brilliantly whimsical “Pebbles” – only a year ago, they’ve already established a signature sound that encompasses everything from soul and electro to early '00's R&B. It's all fronted by a mesmerising leading lady who was able to adapt to ballads as easily as big electro numbers with a voice that effortlessly glided through the octaves.
Whether it was pining love song ”Stole” or the harsher synth tones of “Reach For Me”, emotion soared through the performance and encompassed the crowd in an intimate embrace. New single, the seductive “Rum Woman”, stood tall in the set providing the soundtrack to an alcohol-fuelled evening of romance and further established Barli as an act worth monitoring closely.
