Unknown Mortal Orchestra return with first single of 2022 "I Killed Captain Cook"
Unknown Mortal Orchestra have returned with new track "I Killed Captain Cook", marking their first outing of 2022.
"I Killed Captain Cook" follows Unknown Mortal Orchestra's December annual instrumental "SB-09", and is the first preview of a new double album that's due out in 2023.
The new song is written from the perspective of the Hawaiian that killed Captain James Cook, and arrives with a video directed by Ruban Nielson, which stars Nielson's mum Deedee Aipolani Nielson, a Kanaka Maoli from Hilo and Miss Aloha Hula 1973.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra's forthcoming double album will follow 2018's IC-01 and Sex & Food albums.
As well as sharing "I Killed Captain Cook", Unknown Mortal Orchestra have announced headline tours in the UK and North America, which will see them play London's O2 Academy Brixton on 31 May 2023. Tickets go on sale this Friday (28 October) at 10am local time via unknownmortalorchestra.com.
